BANNIGAN HOUSE | WAHROONGA

Set discreetly behind the streetscape along Water Street, Wahroonga, this alterations and additions project compliments the charming character-filled English Tudor home within a Heritage Conservation Area.

Rather than contrast old with new, the architectural design takes a more nuanced approach, carefully extending the existing language of the original style as well as undertaking long overdue maitenance works such as replacing the timber shingle roof without. Designed by an experienced architect, the addition introduces a new garage and a generous master bedroom suite that feel inherently connected to the original dwelling.

Attention has been given to proportion, rooflines and material selection, ensuring the new elements sit comfortably alongside the existing structure. The master suite provides a private retreat, elevating the home’s functionality, while the new garage resolves access and usability challenges typical of a battle-axe property.

This project highlights a restrained and considered architectural approach, one that enhances everyday living while preserving the identity of the home. For Wahroonga homeowners, it demonstrates how working with an architect and builder can unlock practical improvements without compromising heritage character or long-term value. The property was featured in the SMH Domain’s property news.

Our role encompassed architectural design, documentation and project management for both the Development Application (DA) and Construction Certificate (CC) stages.
