101A EASTERN ROAD | TURRAMURRA
Located on a constrained corner site in Turramurra, this contemporary pharmacy project at Eastern Road demonstrates how thoughtful architectural design can modernise essential community infrastructure while respecting the character of an established streetscape.
The proposal for a three-storey commercial pharmacy carefully balances innovation with contextual sensitivity. Retaining the original shopfront preserves the familiar street character and maintains continuity within the local village environment, while a larger-scale contemporary addition to the rear accommodates expanded operational requirements and future growth.
A defining feature of the project is the integration of a state-of-the-art Meditech robotic dispensing system located within the attic level, allowing the pharmacy to deliver highly efficient and technologically advanced healthcare services to the local community. The architectural design supports this functionality while maintaining a refined and approachable public presence.
Materiality plays an important role in the design expression, with detailed hit-and-miss brickwork used in a contemporary manner to create texture, depth and filtered light throughout the building. This carefully articulated façade treatment helps soften the scale of the addition while contributing to the evolving architectural identity of the precinct.
The project demonstrates how commercial architectural design can successfully combine heritage sensitivity, advanced technology and community-focused outcomes. For property owners and healthcare operators, it highlights the value of engaging an architect to deliver commercially functional spaces that enhance both local identity and long-term service capability.
Our role encompassed architectural design, documentation and project management for the Development Application (DA) stage.
