UNISSON DISABILITY (FORMERLY SUNSHINE)

Unisson is a not-for-profit disability services provider that is committed to supporting people with an intellectual disability. The Pymble property contains not only an operational community access program but also the organisation’s administrative heart.

McCullum Ashby were engaged to upgrade not only the internal and external look of the existing building but also to recognise current accessibility standards. The provision of a new striking feature external lift well, stairs and ramping coupled with new streetscape landscaping re-engaged the tired building form with the street and its setting and provided much needed level building access. Additional works involved providing a contemporary office fit out to the lower floor and reworking of the upper floors to better accommodate the needs of the access program. The use of glass to spread light and enhance space coupled with liberal splashes of colour throughout the office planning has provided the client with a final product that everyone can be proud of.
