Jack House | Heritage Home Addition in Gordon

Jack House is a heritage-listed alterations and additions project that reimagines a traditional home for contemporary family living while carefully respecting its original architectural character.

The architectural design introduces a light-filled open plan kitchen, living and dining area to the rear of the home, significantly improving functionality, spatial flow and connection to outdoor entertaining spaces. Designed to support modern living, the new addition creates a seamless relationship between indoor and outdoor areas while maintaining the integrity of the original dwelling.

A key aspect of the project involved navigating complex Council planning and heritage approval requirements. Through a carefully considered architectural approach, the design successfully balances heritage conservation with contemporary residential design outcomes.

The rear addition is expressed as a distinctly contemporary form featuring vertical cladding, white painted brickwork and refined detailing. This deliberate contrast allows the original heritage fabric to remain legible while introducing a modern architectural language that feels elegant, restrained and complementary.

Jack House demonstrates how thoughtful architectural design can successfully transform heritage homes through sensitive alterations and additions. For homeowners seeking heritage renovations, contemporary extensions or architect-designed home additions, the project highlights the value of engaging an architect experienced in balancing council heritage requirements with modern family living.

Our role encompassed architectural design, documentation and project management for both the Development Application (DA) and Construction Certificate (CC) stages. Construction commenced on site in early 2026.
