We are very please to see that construction has commenced on our design for a contemporary new home on the escarpment overlooking the beautiful Berowra Waters.

In 2014 our clients came to us with a green site sold as part of a new subdivision in Berowra within the Hornsby Council area. The site embraces the top of the Turner Road ridge and commands amazing panoramic views of Berowra Creek. The site however is not without challenge being a BAL-FZ and BAl-40 bushfire prone lot and those views are all westerly which creates some interesting architectural challenges.

The architectural form of the design is born from its setting resulting in a longitudinal building embracing the ridgeline but allowing the occupants to undertake a journey through a series of separable zones of the home to allow efficient thermal control but also suit the owners lifestyle. The dwelling provides commanding views from every room of the house yet each room has been individually considered so that privacy is maintained and the thermal comfort maintained. The architecture is defined by a contemporary industrial style embracing simplicity of materials expressed through the use of galvanised steel, raw and polished concrete as well as lots of glass.

McCullum Ashby Architects are proud to feature this home on their website and look forward to posting updated photos as the build progresses.

Work commences on site, March 2016.

Finished university and looking to jump start your career?

Do you want to join a small team of creative, energetic and talented architects?

Do you enjoy challenging yourself and want an opportunity to make an impact in design and help clients realise their vision?

If you are a freshly trained and enthusiastic architect who gets excited by design just like we do so then you might be just who we are looking for.

McCullum Ashby Architects is a boutique practice (residential and commercial) that provides an ideal learning environment and we’re currently looking for a full-time graduate architect to join our team.

Tell me more about the role?

Well, the advantage of working in a boutique firm is that you will get your ‘hands dirty’ on all aspects of architecture design projects, including concept design, documentation for development applications and construction certificate submissions, preparation of 3d models and renderings, written reports, project management and client servicing.

You will need to have excellent design and documentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Attention to detail and independence are an absolute must, as is professionalism in dealing with clients.

Ideally you’ve completed an Australian architecture degree (or equivalent) in the past 2-5 years and gained relevant post-graduate work experience, though we will consider more recent graduates who have gained suitable experience during their study.

You will also need excellent time management and organisational skills to successfully juggle a number of projects at once.

You should also enjoy working in collaboration and be happy to pitch in whatever the task – initiative, creative thinking and enthusiasm will take you far!

Interested?
Please email your CV to staff@mccullumashby.com.au or apply via Seek

And be sure to let us know what your core skills are that will wow us and where would you like to / need to develop!

APPLICATIONS CLOSE 4pm FRIDAY 20th MAY 2016.

McCullum Ashby Architects was recently featured for a product case study by Weathertex for a new contemporary three bedroom home in Wahroonga.

Download the case study.

The architectural form was born from the clients Japanese heritage which inspired a carefully crafted home. The dwelling was designed as a modular light weight timber framed building clad in Weathertex panels. Two types of panels were used, the Exteriorboard was used sporadically in a matrix style feature geometric patterning and Selflok Ecogroove weatherboards laid vertically elsewhere. The design incorporated a number of Spotted Gum decks including the drama filled entry boardwalk. The decks not only provided a literal connection from home to ground but also reflects the site’s bush heritage.

Weathertex is an Australian owned and Newcastle manufacturer of external timber cladding. The cladding is available in both traditional an contemporary profiles and with a zero carbon footprint is a great and natural product alternative for any home.

The builder for this project was Admire Build Pty Ltd and the home was constructed under an ABIC-SW 2008 contract with McCullum Ashby acting as contract administrator throughout the contract duration.

Construction is complete on another new home in Wahroonga.

This property contained a dilapidated brick home and was a opportune project to knock down and rebuild. The site was challenging as it contained critically endangered habitat including species of the Blue Gum High Forest. The client’s brief was to create a new contemporary home that was affordable to construct but also considered the impact of the dwelling on the environment not only today but into the future.

Our architectural design for this home features three bedrooms plus study, an open plan living area, alfresco outdoor area and basement storage. The dwelling was designed as a modular light weight timber framed building clad in Weathertex panels. Weathertex is a lightweight, recycled timber board that has a zero carbon footprint.

The project was approved by Ku-ringg-ai Council under their current planning controls, the KPSO and DCP 38. The project was contract administered under ABIC-SW 2008 by Murray from our office who maintained a hands on role from design through to today.

Are you considering a knock down and rebuild? Please do not hesitate to contact Murray in our office for a no obligation appraisal of your home’s potential.
